David, I found your article very useful, as we're just starting out on the Revit road & find the current pen settings a little strange. If you cut back & change the current pen settings, how does this affect the current families line widths? Do you have to alter all the families to match as well? Regards, Jim

The pen weights in a family are totally ignored by the project model. Pen 1 weight will come from the project model.
You are best served if you have consistant line style and pattern names between all files.
Actually upon further testing this is wrong. The family can hold the pen weights, or at least make changing them very complicated.
